Relentless Love

Today is one of those days where the awesome power of the ocean is on display. Wave after wave, crashing on the rocks, sending plumes of spray high in the air, creating temporary waterfalls.

I am reminded of the awesome power of God’s love, relentlessly hammering at our hard hearts, covering us with grace.

I am reminded of Martin Luther King, Jr., quoting the prophet Amos. “Let justice roll down like waters.”

I am reminded of a song. “No storm can shake my inmost calm while to this rock I’m clinging.”

The feeling I have, secure on the rock while the waves crash around me, reminds me that as long as I am centered in God, as long as the power of the Spirit is grounding me, the storms of life may rage and not drown me. I feel God’s power surging through me, strengthening me to stand firm, unafraid.

I am grateful for that feeling. I will return to the sea as often as I need to be reminded of God’s relentless, powerful love.
