Love in Action

When we bind ourselves to love, we become vessels of that love in the world. That is what "the church" is. Not a building. Not even a bunch of people in that building. But people who go to that building in order to strengthen themselves to go into the world in love. No pandemic can stop that. This is our parish hall right now, the place where in "normal" times we would gather after worship on Sunday morning for coffee hour, where the choir rehearses, where education programs are held. And oh yes, the place where every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we offer food to those in need. It's been happening for over 50 years and we haven't skipped a beat.

Our amazing team of volunteers has been working overtime, adapting to changing circumstances, figuring out how to get food and how best to distribute it. When we have extra, they reach out and find ways to get it out into the community. They treat those who show up with love and respect and grace. Those who can show up in person do, masked and socially distanced, and there are many others working behind the scenes and still more holding up this entire team in prayer.

I am in awe of their dedication and commitment, and of the love that fuels it. Join me today in praying for this ministry and for the people who have dedicated themselves so fully to it.

If you prayer leads you to act, we are always looking for volunteers. And if you feel compelled to give, send a check to St. Mary's by the Sea Episcopal Church, 146 12th Street, Pacific Grove, CA, 93950 and put "Christian Social Concerns" in the memo line, or support your local food bank - the need is great.

Love in action can change the world.
