Late Bloomer

The lupine along the coast were in glorious bloom a while back, and lately I have been watching as the seed pods turned from green to brown. And now, as you can see, they have opened and released their seeds. And yet, there are new flowers blooming. What a beautiful surprise!

The plant seems spent, yet still offers something new to the world. I wonder if it surprises the plant as much as it surprises those who see it.

As we go through the seasons of our lives, things bloom in us. An idea ripens, comes to fruition, and then makes room for something new. Even when it looks like we have reached the end, like we have bloomed and released all the seeds we are going to release and now we are ready for dormancy, we may be surprised to find something new growing in us.

Can we celebrate that new growth and nurture it? Do we have another season in us? And as we look at others - where is new growth springing up? How can we celebrate and nurture that as well?

Late bloomers put a different spin on the cycle of life, don't they? Just when you thought you knew what to expect, a splash of color catches your eye. Pay attention to it. Be curious. And be grateful.
