Sometimes, hope catches you by surprise. Things seem bleak, but something catches your eye. A hint of something beautiful, barely present. A reminder of the arc of the universe that is long, but that bends toward justice, as Martin Luther King, Jr. said.
Pay attention to the signs of hope, for we go in the direction we are looking. On this feast of the Epiphany, we remember the star, a sign of hope, a sign of the light that is in the world, that has never left and will not leave us desolate. Focus on love, on justice, on hope. Even if they are barely perceptible, they are there.
Don’t focus on the fog. Focus on the rainbow.
