First, Stop the Bleeding

The dramatic skies this morning, dark clouds overhead with the occasional patch of bright blue sky, got me thinking. Where is our patch of blue sky? Where is hope to be found as gun deaths continue to mount and there appears to be no collective will to stop the carnage? How can we return to sanity?

First, stop the bleeding. When a patient is bleeding out (in this case, our country), the time to argue about the best course of treatment is after you've stopped the bleeding.

It is clear we don't agree on how best to prevent gun violence, now the leading cause of death for kids in the US. But can we agree we need to stop the bleeding?

We don't agree, but when you try one thing and it doesn't work, you need to try something else. Our current "strategy" of more and more guns for more and more people is not working; things are getting worse. So let's try fewer guns for fewer people and see if that works. If not, we can try something else. But for the love of God, and for the love of people, let's stop the bleeding so some of us are left to argue over whether we did the right thing.

Stop sacrificing people on the altar of ego and power.
