Arise

There is something special about Monday mornings here. Weekends bring more people to the shore, and it is always nice to get out walking on Monday after the crowds have gone. I don’t have to be on alert not to get too close to others, so I can breathe more deeply and pause for a few moments, seeing whatever presents itself, listening to the roar of the surf.

Today I am deeply grateful. Grateful for the restorative power of nature, for a sunny morning, for the reassurance of familiar faces (human and canine) on the path, for the song running through my head. “Arise, My Love,” by Michael Card - because that is one of the texts for this coming Sunday.

Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. God is beckoning. Whether it is through nature, or art, or the good company of loved ones, God calls to our hearts. Arise and come away. There is so much to see, so much to experience, so much to treasure.

Arise. Get up. Go look out the window. Go outside. What do you see?
