The dust on the shoes is from the previous day’s hike. Took this yesterday just off the road above Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. Katrina and I had hoped to hike to Eagle Lake but apparently got too late a start and not only was the tiny parking area full but for a mile on either side cars were parked along the road. So we pulled in to the first spot we saw and basked on the rocks with the lizards, taking in the view. Later we had our picnic on the shore.
In the olden days, we might have been upset about missing the hike. But as with so many things lately, flexibility means less disappointment. We are holding things more loosely, ready to pivot when necessary. Enjoy each moment for what it is, not for what it could/should/might have been.
It’s an attitude I hope to take with me into the post-COVID era, whenever that turns out to be. And in the meantime I am breathing easier and smiling more.
