After the rains

It amazes me that I can still be surprised by the blues of sea and sky. It's like my brain just can't hold on to the memory of how utterly vibrant it is. Pictures help, but don't really do it justice. I am so grateful to live here, where most days I can experience it first-hand.

I remember just under 2 years ago, when we were spending 2 months in France and went for a long weekend to Monte Carlo and Nice. The day we were in Nice I was just completely overwhelmed with blue. The sky and the sea reflected off each other, it seemed, making all the other colors sing, too. Yellow and white and red. We sat at a restaurant on the rocky beach for hours, and waves of well-being washed over me.

Here it is different, but the power of blue is the same. I missed it the last couple of days, when it was raining and the blue was much more gray. After the rains, the blue is even bluer than usual. It took my breath away this morning, and restored that sense of well-being.

I wonder if blue affects everyone this way, or if others have different colors that convey this sense of peace and endless possibility at once. Pretty sure that combination can change the world.
