Ruth Bader Ginsburg understood hope. Hope is that thing that keeps us from despairing over current circumstances, because we do not see what is as the way it will always be. We see another way. And even if today looks bleak, we hold a vision of a different tomorrow that keeps us going.
God has a dream for creation. It is a dream built on love, not fear. On hope, not despair. God plants dreams in each of our hearts that are not for us alone. By listening to our hearts we can find our callings - those things we can do, must do, that will bring the world closer to God’s dream.
We are not powerless as long as we hope. Hope is the power to change the world. Tomorrow can be better. What will you do today? It can be as simple as a kind word rather than silence. It can be as ambitious as deciding to run for office. It most likely will be somewhere in between. Hold on to hope, and let it be your guide.
Rest in peace, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Thank you for showing us what a hope-filled life looks like.
